UPDATE! Schedule changed to tomorrow JANUARY 9th, 2026:

Taft Elementary’s new music room is still in progress, and construction is moving along quite well.

We wanted to give families a heads-up that tomorrow morning, JANUARY 9th, 2026, around 7:30 a.m., during our usual student drop-off time and our monthly Donuts with Grown-ups, there will be a large delivery truck and crane on site delivering trusses. This may temporarily impact traffic flow on the road in front of the school.

If you are able to avoid the main drop-off area and use the back parking lot, it would be extremely helpful. We will have additional staff on duty to assist and ensure students arrive at school safely.

Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

In 2010, Oregon adopted higher K–12 academic standards in English Language Arts and Math to ensure all students gain the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as they move from grade to grade and beyond high school. As expectations increased, the state also updated how student progress is measured through statewide assessments, known as Smarter Balanced.

If you would like to opt your student out of state testing, please submit the Annual OSAS Opt-Out Form to the school office.

Lincoln County School District is proud to continue providing breakfast and lunch to all students, at no charge to families, under the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) thanks to grants from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

As part of these programs, we are required to follow USDA and ODE Child Nutrition Program rules for nutrition service programs. Therefore, the District’s wellness policy (EFA) requires the following:

All foods and beverages offered on the school campus are encouraged to meet the nutrition standards set by the USDA and the Oregon Smart Snacks Standards (linked here:OR Smart Snacks at a Glance). This includes, but is not limited to, celebrations, parties and classroom snacks brought by parents. School staff should also consider student and staff allergies before allowing items to be served. Please contact your school office before bringing food items to share with students in a classroom. All items must be purchased from a store. Home Baked items are not permitted.

Food and beverages advertised or sold to students on campus during the school day must meet or exceed the Oregon Smart Snacks Standards. This includes, but is not limited to, vending machines, school stores, snack or food carts, and fundraising.
All fundraisers must comply with Oregon Smart Snacks Standards up to half an hour after the end of the last school day activity.
Food items meeting the Smart Snacks Guidelines may be sold during the school day half an hour after lunch service ends.
Food and beverages sold outside of the school day are not required to meet these guidelines but it is encouraged.

Thank you for helping us continue to provide meals at no charge to local families by following these guidelines. Questions may be directed to your school’s principal or to the Nutrition Services Department at 541-336-2146.

This institution is an equal opportunity provider.

Here are some resources regarding a recent trend affecting Oregon: skimmers at grocery stores. Most SNAP funds are provided on EBT cards, which function like credit cards but lack modern chip technology. Scammers have been stealing card numbers and using SNAP benefits in fraudulent transactions across the country—leaving families without the limited funds they rely on.

There are several ways to help protect an EBT card, such as freezing the card between uses, blocking out-of-state and online purchases, and regularly changing PIN numbers. However, these steps can be challenging for individuals without reliable internet access, a cell phone, or strong digital literacy skills.

The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) has created a variety of helpful resources, including instructional videos at https://www.oregon.gov/odhs/benefits/Pages/videos.aspx
